It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 years since September 11, 2001. Most of us can still tell you exactly where we were when the news first broke of a plane hitting the Twin Towers.
What a lot of us also remember is the skyline before that morning. For nearly three decades the Twin Towers weren’t a memorial. They were just New York. Two shimmering towers in the background of every establishing shot.
We’ll never forget that day. But we can still honor the buildings the way a generation first met them… on screen, in the movies, and on the TV we grew up with. Standing tall like they always had.

Hi Serena, It’s hard to believe it’s been 25 yrs since the attacks on our country. The attack of the Twin Towers and their shocking collapse while the whole world watched has been etched in everyone’s memory since. Everyone remembers where they were that day. When it came to Hollywood movies and tv programs,the quandary of removing them from the skylines in movies and shows was a tough call when it came victims families and the general public ,who wanted them to stay in tribute. Some shows like The Sopraranos eventually removed them from their opening sequence. I’m glad many older movies like Trading Places (one of my favorites) and Home Alone 2, both with some fantastic scenes with the towers, were not removed. They and other movies like Working Girl and Superman will keep the memory of the NYC skyline looking like it used to in all of it’s towering glory. A wonderful article on this solemn day. I never did agree with removing the WTC from TV and movies. They are a part of our history. I feel it is a reflection on how eager some are to erase our past when we can only as a society learn from history. But here we are.
