Aging – Hollywood vs. Real Life

With my childhood hero, Captain James Tiberius Kirk’s trip into space at age 90(!), I was reminded of something mostly unrelated: depicting aging in movies and on TV. They never get it right–especially the fat part.

Now I’m not here to mock anybody (cripes, you don’t see what I see in the mirror every morning). But it’s just something I’ve noticed and want to point out. Having now been around enough decades to see my favorite actors and crushes “mature,” I have made a few observations I wish to share with you.

Let’s start with William Shatner.

From the same Star Trek episode the “Deadly Years.” Jimmy Doohan, I do miss you, sir. You’d have made a better captain.

In the interest of equality, let’s look at a female star–the beautiful Geena Davis. From League of Their Own and reality.
