‘Twas the Monday before Christmas, and things might be getting a little rushed and crazy. The kids are home. Travel plans may be in the works, or possibly getting the home ready to welcome extended family. There might be baking, wrapping, shopping and general organizing in your future. Time to take a breather.
When you need a quick Christmas rest, here are some of my favorite mellow-out, calm-down and cozy-up wintery instrumentals:
“Carol of The Bells” John Fahey with Richard Ruskin
When I was taking guitar during my high school years, my teacher loved John Fahey and constantly gave me assignments based on his style. This Christmas season tune is one I still love.
“The Earl of Salisbury’s Pavane” by Acoustic Alchemy
Acoustic Alchemy’s “Positive Thinking” is one of my go-to chill songs. Here’s some seasonal sounds from this guitar duo, as well.
“Christmas Time is Here” by Khruangbin
Khruangbin got some attention for their “Texas Sun” with Leon Bridges, but their Christmas cover of this piece by Vince Guaraldi Trio favorite also warrents some love.
“Poets & Angels” by Ottmar Liebert
Ottmar Liebert’s Nuevo Flamenco Christmas and winter albums are always gorgeous, and this original title track from Poets & Angels is a great way to just kick back and dream of Santa Fe.
“Snowfall” by Claude Thornhill
I love this old 1941 instrumental from Claude Thornhill and his Orchestra. It takes me back to different world that wasn’t perfect, but yet somehow just cooler.
Before you rush off again to prepare for that big dinner, church service or sparkly holiday party, mellow out a bit.
You deserve it.
