Not going to overthink this week’s pick. I’ll just take a moment to recognize the brilliance of Sade. A brilliance that’s born of honesty and staying true the things you believe in. That’s a couple of the reasons we’re going with Sade on Sunday Jams. Is the music fantastic? Yes. You get the distinct impression that Sade is telling you the absolute truth as well. She is not lying. This isn’t an act. This an expression of what she really feels. It’s that honesty that makes the band’s music so damn appealing. If there was a hint of disingenuousness it wouldn’t work. At all. And let’s give it up for every member of the group that pursued this style of music in 1982. Talk about staying true to yourself. It’s 1982 and you want to record a soul, smooth jazz, R&B record? Good luck with that. Unless it’s awesome and honest and sounds incredible. Which it does. Here’s three from Sade.
