This Friday is St. Patrick’s Day, and for many people it’s during Spring Break. That just takes the party to the next level…unless you’re observing Lent.
Fortunately, there’s nothing stopping you from jamming out to some epic Irish party music on a Friday, no matter what you celebrate. Here are five of my favorite Irish and Irish punk party tunes.
“An Irish Pub” by the Rumjacks
This band actually formed in Australia, and their song poking fun a the hipster “Irish” themed dive bar is spot on. By the way, they are saying “whale, oil, beef, hooked” ya’ dirty minded folk. I call it loophole swearing.
“Rose Tattoo” by Dropkick Murphys
American punkers Dropkick Murphys proudly display their Irish heritage every St. Patrick’s Day with a special concert, but I still love the tribute to display your own personal history through a good old tat.
“Swagger” by Flogging Molly
“Drunken Lullabies” from their album Swagger made Flogging Molly a pretty big name in the alternative charts when it came out in 2000, but I really prefer the instrumental title track for some great Irish style head-banging.
“Raise Some Hell” by Dirty River Boys
This is actually an alternative bluegrass back from Austin via my hometown of El Paso, but their Irish tinged party tune invites to to cut loose a little.
“Song of a Leprechaun” by Paddy and The Rats
You’ve likely guessed from the other songs listed you don’t actually have to be from Ireland to crank out some great Celtic style rock. Case in point, these guys are from Miskolc, Hungary.
Let’s shake off the stress a little a little this week, and put on your jigging shoes, because we could all use it.
Sláinte!
