Feel-Good Songs in Horror Films

The end of April marks what has become known to those who can’t get enough of the spooky things as “Halfway to Halloween.” This is a good time for this designation, as it is also nearly summer. Weather is heating up, the wanderlust is kicking in, and many famous contemporary horror movies that take place during the summer months.

There are always those summer fun activities goin’ on like heading to the summer camp, hiking around Europe, renting that summer home, and just enjoying that nice little cabin in the woods to get away from the heat. What could scream “summer” more than that? Perhaps maybe the blood-curdling screams from the hedonistic teens.

Get ready for this weekend with some a peek at some of the nice, peaceful, upbeat and happy songs featured in horror flicks yet perfect for summer:

Warning (videos may contain some intense graphic horror and a lot of happy tunes)

“Blue Moon” by The Marcels in American Werewolf in London

Two dudes backpacking in Europe! Happy times…let’s hit a pub!

“Don’t Stop Me Now” by Queen in Shaun of the Dead

Hey, what’s more fun than an evening at your favorite watering hole with your mates? Hey, it’s getting crowded in here.

“Hip to be Square” by Huey Lewis & the News in American Psycho

Ah, those city nights having a friend over and talking music. Don’t you miss those days of being young and single? Not sure that those copies of the style section are doing on the floor….

“Rocky Mountain High” by John Denver in Final Destination

I’m playing this one in full and sparing the gore…because John Denver is just too cool. However, remember that epic school trip to France? Ahh, good times.

“American Girl” by Tom Petty in Silence of the Lambs

Doesn’t an evening’s drive just feel great when Tom Petty is blasting one of his best sing-alongs? I can relate. I’m a chronic car singer and steering wheel percussionist myself. You might want to watch where you park.

Whether you got your sights set on summer fun or looking ahead to the downward run to a spooky fall, keep a spring in your step and good music in your heart.

You might also keep on the alert for psycho killers, zombies, and werewolves. You know, just to be on the safe side.
