I had the pleasure of watching a documentary on the Russian Revolution. But unlike the dry high-school movies or even an A & E channel production, this one was entertaining and engaging as hell (no, Hell isn’t entertaining at all – it’s a figure of speech).
Here is part one in all its one hour and twelve minute glory.
Besides being factually accurate, which is very important, it’s narrated in a 1960s government health ed style (Venereal Disease and You) complete with the 8 millimeter film soundtrack quality. The production quality is very good and best of all, has a Monty Python quirkiness to it.
If there was any justice in the universe, these videos would be picked up by The History Channel.
It took me three days to get through the Russian Revolution and it was only part one of three.
I asked the creator of the video series, Professor Jimbo, what motivated him to spend to much time and effort on this series.
I decided to begin my lecture series with the great revolutions of modern history – the French, Russian, and Chinese Revolutions (or the Unholy Trinity as I call them) – after witnessing the childish and destructive social upheavals of 2020. It seems our so-called education system – of which I confess I was once a part – has utterly failed to apprise our youngsters of the many hazards and calamities endemic to revolutions, especially those born out of erroneous ideologies.
