There’s no finely crafted look back at September 11, 2001, here. No list of victims. Just one basic question: What are we doing all these years later? What action are Americans taking to change things? If you were around for the events of 2001, you know it changed you. It was a gigantic wakeup call or reminder that the world is still a very dangerous place. We sure don’t want it to be, but there it was. Sept 11th. Thousands of Americans dead. It was horrible.
So, what are we doing? Besides taking off our shoes at airports? Are we making resolute changes? Have we identified the problem? Have we acknowledged there IS a problem? No.
We, as a country are on the wrong path. The events of the last 3 days have been a body blow of reminders that we can’t continue down this road of pretend ignorance. We can pretend that violence won’t touch us, but we are constantly reminded that it can.
Young girls killed on trains in Charlotte for no reason other than the color of her skin. Charlie Kirk assassinated for having the wrong political beliefs. And now the anniversary of Sept. 11th. Violence on a scale that is hard to imagine.
What then must we do? America has to do something. Here’s my idea: Uphold the law for starters. Uphold the laws that are currently on the books. Lock up violent criminals. How about that for a start? Uphold border laws. That’s a start. Then we can move on about real, honest discussions about what ideologies that aren’t compatible with western civilization. We have to be able to talk about it.
If September 11th, 2001, wasn’t a wakeup call for taking a stand against hyper-violence and bullies? The last 2 days should have been.
