Here’s an interesting development. According to reports, a BLM leader is accused of ‘siphoning’ $10 million dollars from the nonprofit group and using it to pay his consulting firm. The lawsuit alleges that Shalomyah Bowers took the cash and used it to pay Bowers consulting. Are we shocked? Not even close. The Lawsuit was brought by the newly formed Black Lives Matter, INC. They fired up about three months ago and claim to represent BLM chapters from coast to coast. So, what in the Sam Hill is going on? And why does this all sound do familiar? Because it IS familiar. It’s the tried-and-true recipe for personal gain. That the hot take from yours truly. Let’s begin, shall we?

First, we’ll see how this all plays out in court. We’re not going to cast dispersions on anyone involved. Here’s how it looks though. BLM raised something like $90 million dollars. That’s a shit ton of money. People like money. People like money soooo much they will do or say just about anything to keep large amounts of it. Did Shalomyah take millions from BLM and pay his own consulting firm? Maybe. It wouldn’t be a groundbreaking idea.
The Lincoln Project seems to have a similar ‘closed loop’ type of arrangement. Take in a boat load of money, then pay your own company for ‘services rendered’. It’s a sweet gig. Worth millions and millions. This wouldn’t be the first time a giant nonprofit did something like this. I’m sure we all remember BLM founder Patrisse Cullors making headlines for using $6 million on houses and parties etc. Think there was also some consulting involved with that one too.

So, in case you just scrolled to the end for a summary, here it is. BLM, The Lincoln Project and many others have a recipe that works like a charm. Step one: Point out scary thing. Step two: Raise money to ‘fight scary thing’. Step three: Do the bare minimum to fight scary thing and get rich in the process. The trick is to give off the appearance of actual work on the issue without actually solving the issue or eliminating the ‘scary thing’. If you solve the problem, you run out of money.
This all sounds wildly familiar because I would agree that this is the very scam our government loves to run. Thier’s is better though, because they can just vote to take more of our tax dollars. How’s that war on poverty going? That started in 1965. We’ve spent, as a nation 22 trillion dollars. Last time I checked there was a shit ton of poor people. Just saying. https://www.heritage.org/poverty-and-inequality/report/the-war-poverty-after-50-years
That’s just one example. We could on an on with government programs that don’t work and we all pay for, but it’s really quite depressing. Once you see and understand the recipe you can’t unsee it. Imagine what our society would be like if we actually tried to solve problems instead of getting rich off them. It would be fantastic beyond your wildest dreams. But congrats to groups like BLM, The Lincoln Project and governments around the world. You got a sweet gig. Making a fortune off the illusion of caring.
Funny how you left out Steve Bannon who’s under indictment right now for pointing out scary thing (immigrants) and looting funds from the Wall project.
Loftus Party my ass. Just another right leaning trash organization.
Let’s see if ol’ Steve is guilty. Let’s see if the BLM dude is guilty too. All I’m saying is there is a pattern. How about we stop judging policies for their intentions and judge by results. We’ll save ourselves a lot of trouble. We to miss the point though. Congrats!
