We are saddened to learn of the passing of Paul Reubens as people of a certain age knew as Pee Wee Herman.
“Last night we said farewell to Paul Reubens, an iconic American actor, comedian, writer and producer whose beloved character Pee-wee Herman delighted generations of children and adults with his positivity, whimsy and belief in the importance of kindness,” his reps said in a statement to The Post.
The cause of death was cancer, according to the statement.
Reuben’s early life was high school drama and comedy with unmistakable influences from the circus he grew up near.
The character of Pee Wee was born in his time with The Groundlings in the 1970s.
You might have not known (I didn’t) that was in the running for Roger Rabbit. In many ways, he was part of the 80s firmament. He might be best known for the 5 seasons and 22 Emmys for “Pee Wee’s Playhouse” a not-for-children children’s show. Think: Andy Kaufman meets TeleTubbies.

He did have a run in with the law in 1991 for indecent exposure in a movie theater. A charge that wouldn’t raise an eyebrow in today’s world.
Of all the Pee Wee Herman memories, his debut film with none other than Tim Burton, “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure” is my favorite. And this scene winning over bikers and sparing himself from murder might be the most Pee Wee ever. Enjoy!
