It’s the anniversary of ‘Animal Farm’. The book was first published on August 17th, 1945. It’s a classic. I don’t know about you, but we all read it in school. The book was a short novella that was an outstanding critique of socialism/communism. Loaded with farm animals that you cared about, it was also an emotional home run.
For me, that’s what makes the whole thing work. The perfect metaphor of the farm and all the characters on it. That George Orwell fella sure knew how to write a satirical allegory novella. Am I right or am I right?
Anyway, I doubt that Animal Farm is required reading these days. If there’s anything bad ideas like communism and totalitarianism don’t enjoy, it’s criticism. And history. Communists don’t seem to care for those things too much. So, let’s give a big shout out to George Orwell and his book Animal Farm and all the kids on the internet that are keeping the story alive. We could use more cautionary tales. Now more than ever.
Hint: In a socialist system, you want to be the person who decides what ‘fair’ is. That’s key.
