Fall has official started, and whether or not your neck of the woods is seeing some cool breezes are still stuck in the late summer heat, it is time to get into the mood of the new season.
To help get in the vibe, here are some tunes to enjoy the new season:
‘The Great Pumpkin Waltz’ by Vince Guaraldi
“Linus and Lucy” might be the best known of Guaraldi’s Charlie Brown soundtrack works, but there’s just something about this one that feels right with a morning sun coming up or evening sun setting while walking among autumn trees.
“Return to Innocence” by Enigma
Remember the Pure Moods CD compilation craze, when everyone was and armchair mystic? Honestly, there was some pretty chill music on these discs, and Enigma’s weird dreamy hit was a sexy, sultry standout to go with fall evenings.
“La Foule” by Alexandra Whittingham
Guitarist Alexandra Whittington’s recent release is and instrumental cover of a classic Edith Piaf tune, translated as “The Crowd,” is about finding lost love. Wherever you are in the world, it will mentally take you to a sidewalk cafe in Paris in the 1950s or 60s on a fall morning, when the romance of the city was still in full swing.
“Autumn Leaves” from Nat King Cole
I had to include this fall standard that that been covered by countless artists from Frank Sinatra to Louis Armstrong, but Nat King Cole’s voice is just unbeatable.
“La Sandunga” by Tempus Quartet
Sandunga means “grace” in Spanish and with Dia de Los Muertos set in the middle of fall, the Tempus Quartet from Tampico, Mexico brings us into the mysterious beauty of the season with their mix of rock traditional folklorico and classical.
September is the best time to enjoy the peaceful fall days before the Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas onslaught of activities and obligations begin. There will be time for planning and time for worrying about the world (both in a global sense and in your own corner of it), but right now you need to recharge.
Happy Fall, everyone. Keep the music flowing, whatever it is.
