Let’s talk about the Oscars, 2026. Granted this post will be from the perspective of someone who didn’t watch. And I didn’t watch for a couple of reasons: One I already had a family event and two, I honestly didn’t know the Oscar were happening. If I had known? I probably would have watched just to see what happened and to be able to joke about it. And it’ also worth noting that I worked in Hollywood for a lot of years. I won’t list my resume cause that’s not why we’re here. It’s boring.
The Oscars used to be a ton of fun and must watch TV. Just sayin’. So, knowing that, here’s reaction to the big Hollywood awards show.
The ratings for the broadcast were actually up a tic. Last night’s show got 19.7 million viewers. The used to get over 40 million but that was before 2014. It’s been kind of downhill since then. However, the rating for last night’s show marked a 5 year high. So, there’s that.
Now let’s see what the people on social media are saying. Looks like Javier Bardem got political. Meh.
Here’s what’s killing the movies and by default, the Oscars. Rules like these. Oh well. Let them do their thing. Creativity will find a way eventually. Someone will pick up the slack that the Academy is creating for itself. It’s already hard to write a good movie. When you put rules like these in place? Oof. Good luck.
It’s also worth noting that the only movie I watched that was nominated was Frankenstein. Oh well. It was phenomenal and you should check it out. Moving on!
Classic hypocrisy. Every time.
Congrats to Michael B Jordan. Good move to hit In and Out after the big win. That way you’re not hungry at the after party and staring at insane buffet that just looks completely inedible.
This is where the seat fillers sit. The random people who are paid to attend to make the event look full. It’s still a sad pic.
Jimmy Kimmel said some dumb shit. And this girl had an issue with security or something.
On another lighter note, Amy Madigan won an award. I’m happy for her. I think this means a lot to her so yeah. Good job, Amy.
This is funny to me. More classic hypocrisy.
Ouch. This one didn’t turn out so well for Conan.
So, looking back at an Oscars ceremony that I didn’t watch, here’s my takeaway. I think things may have hit rock bottom for the Oscars. The audience is so fragmented, and the movies are so lame that it’s just going to get harder and harder to find a big audience for the awards show. Hollywood is still in a death spiral. The lack of creativity plays a big part too. But I’m not losing any sleep over any of it. As Hollywood and the Oscars continue to fumble? It’s just more opportunities for Indie creators. Sounds good to me.
