
Chess pie, an American classic with southern roots is so simple to make, the resulting pie will wow anyone who tastes it. Chess pie is made with either milk or buttermilk with varied flavors like this chocolate version, it’s rich, fudgy and gooey and so good I guarantee you won’t have any leftovers. Here’s how to make it:
Chocolate chess pie
makes one 9 inch pie
Single crust pastry ( make it or buy it your call)
1/2 cup (4 oz) butter melted
2 oz dark chocolate (broken or chopped into pieces)
5 oz (1 can) evaporated milk
2 large eggs
2 tsp vanilla extract
1 1/2 cup sugar
3 tbs unsweetened cocoa powder
2 tbs flour
1/8 tsp salt
Melt butter and chocolate on low flame. Whisk evaporated milk, eggs and vanilla until combined, add to butter and chocolate and whisk to combine. Whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, flour and salt and add to the wet ingredients. Pour into prepared pie crust. Bake in pre heated 350 degree oven for 45-55 minutes until set with a small coin size part in the middle that jiggles. Let cool completely before serving. Top with whipped cream or ice cream.
